UCSB Block Grant Accounts
Our users arise from within the University of California, Santa Barbara, campus community. UCSB is a partner with SDSC, the San Diego Supercomputer Center. UCSB also has connections to NCSA, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications.
The OIT offers two types of block grant accounts:
- Individual accounts provide access to all SDSC resources.
- Class accounts provide access to all the SDSC and NCSA resources.
Individual Accounts
To apply for an individual block grant account you must be a student, staff member, or educator
at the University of California, Santa Barbara. This level of allocation is targeted at new users or users who have modest
computational requirements (up to 500 SUs). Normally, these small allocations can be renewed on a yearly basis.
Requests for individual block grant awards can be submitted at any time and take about seven days to process.
Please use this form to request an individual block grant account:
If you need access to other than the SDSC resources, you will need to apply to the NPACI Allocations Committee for an NPACI account, or to the NCSA Allocation Committee for an NCSA account.
Class Accounts
Faculty members who wish to use high-performance computers for their classes may apply for time on the NPACI and/or NCSA systems. Please contact the OIT Supercomputer Consultant or phone (805) 893-8287 at least one month prior to the beginning of the class for the NCSA systems, and at least 15 days prior to the beginning of the class for the NPACI systems.
Applicants for a class block grant account will need to supply:
- Instructor's resume (NCSA systems only)
- Course title
- Course description
- Course syllabus
NPACI and NCSA Allocations
If you need resources exceeding the UCSB block grant quotas, please apply to the SDSC Allocations Committee or to the NCSA Allocations Committee.
For further information about accounts, e-mail the OIT Supercomputing Consultant, or phone (805) 893-8287.
